STATEMENT FROM CITIZENS AGAINST LAWSUIT ABUSE
RE: Failure of Proposition 79
All comments may be attributed to Maryann Maloney executive director of Orange County Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA):
“Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse, along with California voters, saw through the veiled attempt by the personal injury lawyers in Proposition 79 and defeated the initiative that would have made all Californians sick.
In November 2004, Californians overwhelmingly passed Prop 64 to end shakedown lawsuits that had been plaguing California for decades. Prop 79 was an underhanded attempt to re-create the same kind of lawsuits the voters stopped when they passed Prop 64, only this time they went after our medications.
“The results of Prop 79 should serve as a very clear and very loud wake up call to personal injury lawyers that Californians have been well educated on the costs of lawsuit abuse. It’s plain to see that Californians don’t want another law that makes a few lawyers rich at the expense of the rest of us. Here’s hoping our elected leaders get the message too.”
